EAA Chapter 186 member Jeff Davidson is organizing a Zenith Gathering, which will occur as part of the EAA Chapter 186 Flyin and Cruisin at the Winchester (Virginia) Regional Airport (OKV) on September 22 and 23, 2007. The purpose is to get together as many Zenith enthusiasts and their aircraft as possible to share information and socialize. Many Zenith owners and builders in the area are planning to come. Weather permitting, planes are coming from as far away as Canada and Atlanta. There will be a special Zenith tent and special nearby parking area for Zeniths flying in. In the tent a table will be set up to demonstrate various Zenith related sheet metal skills, some Zenith parts for people to handle up close, literature from the various Zenith related businesses, and ongoing videos from HomeBuiltHelp with Jon Croke's permission. There will be a special display of one of the now rare black and white long sleeve Zenith shirts with the three view drawing on it! There will also be plenty of room for hangar flying and eating too. A few Zenith enthusiasts will be camping overnight.

The additional information below is taken from the Zenith Aircraft Company web site under "Events".

The Zenith Gathering at the EAA Chapter 186 Fall Flyin and Cruisin is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday Spetember 22nd and 23rd 2007 at the Winchester Virginia Regional Airport (KOKV). All Zenith enthusiasts are invited to drive or fly-in.

The Winchester Regional airport is located just west of Washington DC outside of the Class B airspace, away from Camp David, and outside the Washington Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). The Winchester airport is just off Interstate 81 at Route 50 for those that are driving. Plenty of hotels are available for those that would like to stay overnight. The airport will also allow hardly aviators to camp on the airport grounds, however shower facilities are not available. The area itself is a tourist destination for the Apple Festival, numerous nearby natural caverns, Skyline Drive, the Charlestown Race Track, historic Harper's Ferry, civil war battlefields, Sky Bryce Resort, and other attractions. Flying in the area exposes a bonanza of exciting scenery.

As part of the EAA event, we will be able to utilize the EAA flyin facilities. A pancake breakfast, lunch trailer, car show, Young Eagles, necessary facilities, and other activities are all traditional aspects of the Winchester flyin. The EAA Chapter will be providing a large Zenith/Zenair tent with plenty of room for hangar flying, a building display or demonstration, whatever literature and goods I can gather, and a continuous video show like that seen at the Builder's Dinner at Robbin's in Oshkosh. Next to it we will have a reserved space high on the airport grounds to tie down and show off whatever number of Zenith aircraft I can entice to fly in. And we will have an eating event! This will be a social and educational aviation event and a chance to have a good time with others interested in Zenith aircraft.
